Lead Safe Mama, LLC’s February 2024 Affiliate Links for Lead-Free Choices Part 2: Knives and Blenders!

Published: February 25, 2024

People ask me about knives (and blenders!) quite a bit.

This is my favorite knife brand (I have used knives from this brand for nearly four decades now): Aflink https://amzn.to/3TajnYV. In general any knife choice that is all stainless should be Lead-free. The markings on these knives are also Lead-free (since I get that question a lot)! In addition to being Lead-free, a knife from this brand saved me from being attacked by a drunken group of teenage Corsican soccer players on a freighter between Corsica and Marseille, France back in April 1990… so there is more than one reason I have a fondness for this brand! (I will try to write that story up some day!) This is similar to the knife I used to ward off my would-be attackers that day (in case you are curious): https://amzn.to/3UT41tb.

While we are on the topic of things I rarely recommend… below are links to my two top picks for Lead-free blenders. Please note, modern/ currently-sold counter top appliances that plug-in to the wall typically have high amounts of Antimony in the cords (as part of the flame-retardant chemical cocktail in the plastic of the cords). This is why I rarely recommend these types of products (because, while they may be Lead-free, they are not 100% free of toxicants). If you buy a product like this (any heavy duty plug in appliance), it is best to leave it (safely) plugged in on your counter (so you don’t have to touch the electrical cord when cooking) OR ā€” alternately ā€” to wash your hands after touching the cord and before cooking (with soap and a washcloth if possible). Antimony is a known carcinogen (added to the list of known carcinogens in the U.S. in 2021).

Here’s a less expensive Lead-free blender option: https://amzn.to/3uSKQF9.

And a more expensive Lead-free blender option:

This is a Stainless Steel container upgrade for the above (second blender option): https://amzn.to/3UQXoaI.

  1. Have you tested the markings inside the stainless steel Vitamix container? I’ve always held off on purchasing it because of the markings.

    1. I spoke with the company they informed me it is actually just laser etched so no actual paint or anything used, gtg šŸ™‚

  2. Have the knives in the picture been tested or just that brand? I ask because the two Laguiole kinks on Amazon take you to very different brands. Trying to make sure Iā€™m getting the correct product. The knife block and set is made in china..
    thank you!

  3. Have you tested Tribest glass personal blenders ? US based company and seems promising with silicone, glass and stainless steel only touching food. Please try to get them to send you a blender to test and hopefully you can get an affiliate link

  4. Hello Tamara, The Laguiole knives they also sell steak knives with wooden handles. I have some small versions of these for the breakfast table. Any idea if these are safe or only the ALL stainless steel version that you have in the link?

    1. All of the stainless ones are good. They have some with yellow brass components and those may have Lead.

      1. Thank you for taking your time to respond. It appears all the steak knives are stainless steel but they have a wooden handle. Have you ever tested the ones with the wooden handles, that are also stainless steel blade?
