Lead Safe Mama, LLC’s owner Tamara Elise Rubin is often approached with requests about advising law firms and businesses.
For Legal Firms
- While serving as an expert witness is possible, given her nearly-two-decades of experience with Lead poisoning, Lead poisoning prevention, heavy metal exposure, and consumer goods safety, she most frequently serves in a consulting capacity for legal firms working on cases or firms in the process of evaluating the merits of cases they are considering taking on.
- She has experience helping evaluate potential issues with case argumentation (including cases with scientific or medical considerations), and often works to connect law firms with appropriate/qualified expert witnesses in various related fields (scientists, medical experts, construction experts, policy experts, etc.).
- She also helps guide legal teams to the appropriate science/research supporting their cases.
- Relevant Experience: She has independently drafted legislation and testified in government hearings several times — both locally (in Oregon) and nationally (related to proposed or enacted legislative policies for childhood Lead poisoning prevention).
Lead (& Other Toxicants) in Consumer Goods
Tamara knows more about the complex, multifaceted subject of health impacts from exposure to Lead and other metallic toxicants (e.g. Cadmium, Mercury, Arsenic, and Antimony) in consumer goods than any other expert on the subject — resulting from a combination of 14+ years of experience testing countless (literally tens of thousands) consumer goods using XRF technology, as well as her active relationships with the world’s top experts in a variety of the many relevant sub-specialty fields. Consequently, Tamara receives a significant number of inquiries from law firms working on Prop 65 compliance cases (and similar cases).
Tamara has also worked with both manufacturers and retailers / resellers to identify problematic products and product components (including foods / food ingredients) – specifically related to heavy metals concerns (with a focus on Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Arsenic). Whenever possible she loves working with companies BEFORE they launch new products / product lines (to help them avoid issues before they happen).
“Mysterious” Sources of Toxicant Exposure
Tamara is often invited to consult with healthcare providers (and public health departments) looking to pinpoint “mysterious” sources of exposure for their patients. Notably, through her direct one-on-one consulting experience working with families of Lead-poisoned children and adults across the United States, Tamara has extensive experience successfully identifying “hidden” sources of Lead-poisoning (or poisoning from other metals) when others (doctors, health inspectors, etc.) have been unable to find the source of a child’s poisoning or persistent elevated Blood Lead Level.
Some Highlights:
- 2011 & 2014: Tamara received two awards from a consortium of public agencies (HUD, EPA, CDC, USDA, USDoE & FDA) for her advocacy work helping families protect their children from Lead-exposure.
- February 2016: Tamara collaborated on an outreach event with Bernie Sanders in Flint, Michigan (see photo below).
- April 2016: Tamara was the opening presenter for a speaking engagement by Erin Brockovich in Portland, Oregon (photo above).
- 2022: Tamara was an invited guest speaker at Stanford University.
