These are the masks my husband has chosen for our family (after he did TON of research) now that Omicron is taking over. We have one kiddo taking in-person college classes this semester and he is medically fragile so it is very important to us that he has the most protective mask for his time in class. N95 masks provide the most protection. Cloth masks are not very effective even with a filter between 2 layers of dense cotton. For Canadian shoppers, CBC Marketplace in Canada has done extensive testing of N95 & KN94 masks.
Thanks Tamara.
Looks like they aren’t available. Checked Amazon.
Hi Tamara,
I’m concerned about Ethylene Oxide (sterilisation process) in most masks.
Do you know anything about this ?
I am aware that there are many concerns for synthetic materials and I am present to those concerns but have not done a deep dive into each possible concern. That said – I think we each need to weigh the risks and benefits of these things for our family and unfortunately in many communities COVID-19 is surging this winter. When you have disabled kiddos (immunocompromised kiddos) as I do, you do your best. For me that means limiting the time they spend wearing masks (and specifically limiting the time they spend in high-occupancy locations and situations where they might need to wear masks: busses, airplanes, concerts, etc.) That also means selecting the best mask for the particular application, whenever possible.
