Yes, I do phone consultations and zoom consultations (and video conferences and video speaking engagements)!

Do you do phone consultations, Tamara?
Do you do zoom consultations?
I get asked all the time if I do phone consultations (or zoom consultations) for families (or companies, or organizations) looking for advice about keeping their homes (or businesses and environments) Lead-free [or making them at least Lead-safe]. I also get asked all the time if I do online video (Zoom) presentations for community groups or educational institutions. The answer to each of these questions is YES! I also do consulting for attorneys and manufacturers on matters related to product safety and lead poisoning cases — more on that here.
I have done phone consultations for more than a decade; although it is not a large part of what I do (I don’t typically schedule more than one a week, given my busy schedule!) — sometimes it can be the best way to help people get answers to pressing questions. Since 2020 I also have also done quite a few Zoom consultations and classes — including presentations for educational institutions (high schools, colleges / universities), EPA RRP trainers and community groups (nonprofits / parenting groups, etc.)
Interested in hiring me for a phone consultation? Here’s how!
- My current rate (2025) for one-on-one phone (or zoom) consultations is between $300 – $750 per hour (with a one-hour minimum) depending on the purpose / context / required preparation and follow up. While we set the hourly rate on a case-by-case basis, here’s a general guide to pricing:
- $300 – for a family with questions — with no materials review)
- I often do zoom consults in which the families do a tour of their home with me, looking for exposure sources – or discuss their child’s blood test results as it relates to other exposure sources in their life, for example – potential diet-based exposure sources (reviewing their pantry contents and/or supplement regiment for Lead concerns).
- $350 – for a family with questions — with a short report or photos to review (three page max report, and up to 10 photos)
- $400 – for a family with questions — with a comprehensive report to review (typically a full home inspection report, more than 3 pages + related photos)
- $500 – starting rate for a corporate consultation — with no materials to review prior to the meetin
- $750 – for a corporate consultation with materials to review and evaluate prior to the meetin
- $300 – for a family with questions — with no materials review)
- Most phone or zoom consultations last between one and two hours. Time after the first hour is billed in 15-minute increments.
- E-mail my assistant Serina to confirm a time and date and the rate for your consultation: Email: Serina@LeadSafeMama.com
- You may also text me directly to see if I have availability, but emailing Serina is more likely to get a quick response! Text: 415-609-3182
- Prior to our meeting feel free to also e-mail me your questions (or a summary of ideas you would like to discuss) – as well as any photos or reports that you want me to review in our meeting.
- I need to receive payment for the first hour in advance of our consultation (to reserve your time slot). If you need additional time, you can pay for that time after we conclude our meeting.
- Preferred payment method is Zelle (503-702-2708 – for Lead Safe Mama, LLC’s Bank of America account) or
- Venmo [to “@TamaraERubin” – 4 digits: 3182]
- If you don’t use Venmo or Zelle, please contact me for additional possible payment methods.
- If you would like me to send you an invoice for your records, please let me know. I will be happy to do that (either before or after our call).
- Our official business name (for billing and invoicing purposes) is Lead Safe Mama, LLC.
- Note: My rate for group meetings or remote corporate presentations varies with the event; please let me know the specifics of your event and I will get you a quote.
Have you watched the film yet?
We always encourage people to watch the documentary film I directed and produced BEFORE hiring me for a phone consultation or zoom consultation. It is a very useful tool to help answer many of your questions and will help to focus our time together so that it is the most productive. The film is 92 minutes long and can be watched via YouTube (link) or Vimeo (link).
I also do in-person home consultations

Disclaimer
When you hire me as a consultant, it is for my advice – as an activist with 20+ years in real-world, on-the ground experience related to childhood Lead-poisoning prevention and consumer goods safety. While I have won multiple national awards for my advocacy work (including two from the Federal government), I am not a Certified Hazard Inspector; I am also not a medical professional of any kind. If you are seeking medical advice, or need a formal / legal report about the Lead safety of your building or structure, I encourage you to hire an appropriate credentialed professional for those tasks. When possible, through my work (and my network of professional contacts) I will help you locate appropriate professionals in your area for these sorts of specific inquiries and reports.
Are you low income?
In addition to watching the film – which is a great resource and answers lots of questions (link above), for low income families who may not be able to afford a one-on-one home consultation, please consider joining our Facebook group – Lead Poisoning Prevention With Lead Safe Mama (link here.) Once you join that group, you can ask questions without a fee. There are currently (March 2025) more than 35,000 people in the group – with varying levels of experience with the issue of childhood Lead poisoning; childhood Lead poisoning prevention; and Lead in consumer goods / consumer goods safety, and you should be able to get some good answers to your questions there.
Please let us know if you have any questions (email Serina!)
Thanks for being here and for supporting this advocacy work, helping families everywhere protect their children from being exposed to Lead in their homes, schools and environment.

Hello, I had an incident happen recently of lead dust getting in my home form construction and I am overwhelmed. Have a few questions:
1. cheapest but effective way I can test things throughout my apartment to see what was potentially exposed?
2. are the “lead safe” wipes sold online a good option (they are phosphate, and after using them heard they were poison?)
3. best way to clean lead mortar dust and how concerned I should be–as I’m getting mixed messages.
Thank you!
