#NLR = Not Lead Related*
Charlie Rubin, my 10-year old son, got this letter from Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown last week (image below).
He wrote an essay and entered a contest to try winning a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Oregon in lighting the Capital’s Christmas tree this year. This year’s national tree is being cut from Oregon’s forests.
He didn’t win the contest, but some of the points in the acknowledgment letter he got are pretty cool to note, too, and I wanted to make sure to share this with you.
- Fourth graders throughout the country can get a free National Parks pass (that covers the WHOLE family!).
- Oregon Fourth graders can get a free permit to cut their own Christmas tree from the Oregon National Forest!
Here’s the link to the program mentioned in the letter (Charlie got his 4th grade free National Parks pass earlier this year and our entire family has gone to three National Parks for free since he got it!): Every Kid In A Park Program.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

*This is actually a *little* Lead-related — in that fake Christmas trees can have Lead (but natural trees grown in the Oregon National Forest will always be Lead-free!).
