Hello all!
I just wanted to say “Happy New Year” from my family to yours.
For Rosh Hashanah we take time with our family, reflect on the past, and dream about our future.
With my boys’ disabilities it has always been difficult to attend formal services (even children’s services in a reform synagogue) so this year we designed our OWN services and celebration, including creating a book for the year for our family where each of us writes our hopes and dreams and the boys draw pictures to express themselves as well.
Every Rosh Hashanah we always make a point to spend time in nature together and to create as many “digital-media-free” moments for our family as possible.
Today we held a family celebration by the river, reading about the holiday, making promises for the new year and writing in our book (a new blank journal) for the year.
Of course this involves eating apples and honey!
After our “service”, the boys then decided to jump in the river and swim out to a nearby island. Now THAT’S the way to really convene with nature and to experience some appreciation of the planet!
I hope you all have a peaceful and prosperous new year.
