When tested with an XRF instrument this “Made in Thailand” Disney Parks “Have A Magical Day” coffee mug was positive for a very low level of lead (Pb): 68 +/- 32 ppm. It was negative (non-detect/ND) for cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg.)
For context: The amount of lead considered toxic in an item intended for children (in the paint or coating) is anything 90 ppm lead (Pb) or higher.
This level of lead is considered safe by all standards (American and European.) Only the exterior surface of the mug was tested. It is difficult to test the interior of most mugs due to the size and shape of the XRF instrument.
Other XRF readings for those who are curious…
- Tin (Sn): 37 +/- 24 ppm
- Barium (Ba): 162 +/- 94 ppm
- Chromium (Cr): 4,132 +/- 1,016 ppm
As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for reading and for sharing!
