When tested with an XRF instrument this vintage La Cartuja De Sevilla Pickman China soup cup (Made in Spain) was positive for the following elements:
- Lead (Pb): 44,800 ppm +/- 1,400
- Barium (Ba): 462 ppm +/- 78
- Non-detect (Negative) for: Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd) and Arsenic (As)

Lead in vintage and antique china was not regulated at all, however – for context – the amount of lead that is considered toxic in a newly manufactured item intended for use by children is any thing 90 ppm lead or higher in the glaze or coating or 100 ppm lead or higher in the substrate.

As a rule, I never eat off of vintage china and I do not keep any in my home.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
