Q. Does my lipstick have lead? Does all lipstick have lead?
A. It is very likely that your lipstick has at least some amount of lead. Online resources show that at least 99% of lipsticks contain some amount of lead. Click here to see a more comprehensive post about this and read below for test results on two lip glosses tested recently.
These are two newly purchased Pudaier Lip Gloss colors, purchased on Amazon in April of 2018. We previously tested a product from this brand here, and discussed the concern at length.
Silver Pudaier Lip Gloss* (#21, pictured below)
Non-Detect for lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic.
Gold Pudaier Lip Gloss* (#18, pictured below):
Test one:
Lead (Pb) 463 +/- 18 ppm
Arsenic (As): 64 +/- 13 ppm
Test two:
Lead (Pb) 506 +/- 17 ppm
Arsenic (As) 31 +/- 12 ppm
Red Pudaier Lip Gloss* (#5, previously posted – see pics here):
Test one:
Lead (Pb) 2,430 +/- 66 ppm
Test Two:
Lead (Pb) 1,944 +/- 40 ppm
Arsenic (As) 91 +/- 27 ppm
Note: just because this one batch of silver is lead-free when tested with an XRF does not mean you can consistently rely on that color from this brand being lead-free. I would not trust this brand at all with these incredibly high lead levels. No lipstick or lip gloss should test positive for lead using an XRF so these results are very alarming.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Tamara Rubin

*These may be Chinese knock offs of this brand, it’s hard to know since it was shipped direct from China, once ordered from Amazon.

Hi, I recently bought a few eye liners from this brand, do you think there is lead in every product from them?
Tamara says
Hi Ian –
Thank you for commenting.
I would never use anything from this brand at all. Eye liners can be very high Lead and if from this brand I would be especially concerned.

Do you have a brand that you recommend ? I will be nice if you can add that in amazon store.
Thank you
Tamara says
Hi Jessica – no, unfortunately I don’t recommend any colored / tinted lipsticks because of potential for Lead concerns.
