Community Film Screenings

MisLEAD is a documentary feature film about the hidden epidemic of childhood lead poisoning in America today. Few in the U.S. realize that 1 in 3 children in our country have likely had an unsafe level of lead in their blood in their life-time; most families do not test their children and are not aware of the importance of lead-safe work practices in renovation.

As a result, I took on the project of creating this film as a tool to educate and raise awareness of families across America. While we are currently working on large-scale distribution for the film, we are holding “Special Engagement Preview Screenings” of MisLEAD in October 2013 (for Lead Poisoning Prevention Month) thanks to collaborative efforts of advocates around the country. These screenings will help us build an audience and generate awareness of the film (and the issue) prior to it’s theatrical release.)

October’s preview screenings will be held free-of charge to audiences, and the costs to host the screenings are being covered by community partners around the country. Hosts to date include state, city and county lead-poisoning prevention programs, children’s hospitals, public health universities and small businesses. Following each preview screening, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion about the issue with Tamara Rubin, the film’s director and other experts in the area of lead-poisoning prevention.
