Introduction (for those new to this website):

Tamara Rubin is a federal-award-winning independent advocate for consumer goods safety and a documentary filmmaker. She is also a mother of Lead-poisoned children, her sons were acutely Lead-poisoned in 2005. Since 2009 Tamara has been using XRF testing (a scientific method used by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) to test consumer goods for toxicants (specifically heavy metals), including Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Antimony, and Arsenic. All test results reported on this website are science-based, accurate, and replicable. Items are tested multiple times, to confirm the test results for each component tested. Tamara’s work was featured in Consumer Reports Magazine in February of 2023.

Important highlights!

  • We are holding TEN drawings. Each drawing winner will win a prize package from Naturepedic worth up to $577.00! Section #1) Why we are doing this giveaway

Lead Safe Mama, LLC is a woman-owned small business based in Portland, Oregon (you can read more about who we are and what we do at this link and this link). If you live in New York City and ride the subway, you may have seen the PSA campaign (for Consumer Goods Safety Awareness and Childhood Lead-poisoning Prevention) that we put up in the subway cars this month. You can read more about that at this link, and you can see images of the PSA campaign here. We are doing this giveaway to help bring attention to the issues raised in the PSA campaign — specifically to help increase engagement in this initiative (and participation in conversations surrounding consumer goods safety and childhood Lead-poisoning prevention) in New York City and beyond. A primary focus of the giveaway is generating more awareness of the issue in New York City specifically — however, generating awareness globally is always welcome, too! This is more complex to enter than most giveaways as it is not your typical giveaway. It is first and foremost an opportunity to raise awareness and we are giving away prizes as part of the initiative as a simple and fun way to thank those who participate and to help encourage engagement in an important conversation.

Section #2) How to enter the giveaway if you live in New York City and ride the subways

If you live in New York City and ride the subway, here’s the simplest way to enter this giveaway for a chance to win a set of organic sheets and pillows from Naturepedic — with the prize parameters detailed below:

  1. Next time you are in the subway, take a selfie of yourself with one of the Lead Safe Mama subway PSA panels clearly visible in the background. There are four images we have posted in the subway — you can see each below to help you recognize them when spotted next! Feel free to get creative with your selfie (include images/emojis and words on the selfie too, if you like!) — just please keep it “P.G.!”
  2. Post the selfie on social media (publicly/sharable, so others who don’t know you can see it and share it). For your entry to be eligible for a chance to win, tag both “@Naturepedic” and “@LeadSafeMama” in the post. OPTIONAL: Feel free to throw in some relevant hashtags, too, including #LeadSafeMama (or some other ideas: #LeadSafeNewYork, #LeadFreeNewYork, #LeadFreeDishes #ToxicDishes #VintageDishes #DemandLeadFreeBabyBottles). In your post, we encourage you to also say a few words about why this issue is important to you personally and share a link to the Lead Safe Mama panel included in your photo (so people who see the post have access to more information about the products in question).   3. To confirm your entry (so we know to look for it & how to find it!) send a link to your public social media posting to Giveaways@LeadSafeMama.com. Please make sure to send this from a REAL email address as we will contact you using this email address if you have been chosen as a winner. Please include your name, the social media profile name where you posted your entry, and your city and state. We will follow up with you to get your full shipping address if you are chosen as a winner.
  4. Keep an eye on your email inbox! We will be choosing a winner about every 36 hours between now and the end of the giveaway. If you are notified that you have won, you will have 24 hours (from the time our email was sent to you) to respond letting us know you would like to accept your prize. If you do not respond within 24 hours, an alternate winner will be chosen from the pool of people who have entered for a chance to win.
  5. Each person can only enter once, but your entry will be eligible to win in all 10 drawings unless you won an earlier drawing. (Once a person has won, their name will be removed from the eligible entries pool.)
  6. Your image submission (selfie or mock selfie) will be shared on all Lead Safe Mama social media channels (and here on the website and possibly also in our email newsletter)  – first: when you post the image and second: if you are confirmed as a winner (once you have sent a confirmation email accepting your prize)! So again — please make it creative, fun, and keep it P.G.
  7. Obscene or inappropriate images will not be eligible to win (following Instagram/Meta rules for image posting).

Section #3) How to enter the giveaway if you don’t live in New York City OR if you live in New York City and don’t ride the subways

If you do NOT live in New York City (and/or do not ride the New York City Subway) you can still enter for a chance to win. Here’s how: 

  1. Download (or copy) one of the photos from our subway campaign from this link. There are four separate campaign images we have posted in the subway and this link includes eight photos with these images in the background. [You can also see all four campaign images below.]
  2. Create a “fake selfie” using your chosen image (from step #1 above) — by inserting yourself into the image in some way. You could copy and paste a real selfie of yourself into the photo (put your face over someone who is already in the photo?). You could draw a stick figure of yourself and put a name tag with your name on it, or you could paste a cartoon version of yourself in the photo! We will only accept original images for this (don’t copy and submit someone else’s image). Feel free to get creative with your mock selfie (include images/emojis and words on the selfie too, if you like!) — just please keep it “P.G.!”
  3. Post the mock selfie image on social media (publicly posted/shareable so others who don’t know you can see it and share it). Section #4) Prizes

The prizes are as mentioned in the graphic above. We are giving away TEN sets of prizes and will run the giveaway until at least July 2. Each winner will win:

  • ONE set of Naturpediic Organic Cotton Sheets & Pillowcases (a natural color — winner picks the sheet size).
  • Plus ONE set of TWO Naturepedic Organic Adjustable Latex Pillows (in standard size or sized to match your sheets).
  • The maximum value of each of these prize packages is $577 (per the graphic above).

Section #5) Drawing dates/times

A winner will be chosen from all eligible entries approximately every 36 hours through the end of the day on July 2, 2023. The first winner will be chosen Sunday evening — June 25, 2023 — at approximately 5 p.m. NYC time. If all 10 sets of prizes have not been awarded by July 2 for any reason, we may extend the giveaway to distribute the remaining prizes. The New York City Subway PSA campaign is also currently scheduled to end on July 2. If the campaign is extended beyond July 2 (which we are currently seeking funding to do) we may also extend the giveaway beyond its current end date.

Section #6) Giveaway affiliations

There is no corporate entity sponsoring this giveaway other than Lead Safe Mama, LLC. The giveaway is also not affiliated with any social media platform (Meta, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Naturepedic has donated products as prizes for the giveaway but is not paying for promotional considerations related to this giveaway.
